Works in Cockatoo

To safely upgrade our water system, we need to switch off the water supply for some customers in Cockatoo.

These works will be happening on Tuesday 21 May from 9 am - 2 pm and overnight on Thursday 23 from 11 pm - 4 am. Customers may have their water turned off for up to 5 hours.

What we’re doing and why we’re doing it

We’ll be installing more valves and hydrants into the water system. Increased hydrants will ensure greater safety and fire readiness.

More valves in the system mean that in future if a fault is identified, fewer customers will be impacted if we need to turn the water off.

Here’s what you need to know

These works will be conducted by our contractor, NPS, who you’ll see digging, drilling and using machinery. While we work, there may be some construction noise and traffic disruption.

Here’s how to prepare for the day

  • Fill containers with water for drinking, cooking and flushing your toilet the day before.
  • To protect your hot water appliances, don’t turn on water during these works.
  • Once your water is restored, run a tap at the front of your home until your water comes out clean and there are no more air bubbles (this water can be used in your garden).
  • You may notice that your water looks white or milky after these works. This can be caused by very small air bubbles in the water – this water is safe to use and drink.
  • It’s normal to experience low water pressure after these works are complete. If your water pressure hasn’t returned to normal after a few hours, please let us know.
