Community Grants Program

Our Community Grants Program funds projects that save water, use water wisely, improve habitats and educate others to use water wisely.

Our program funds better water use in your building and garden, improves habitats to care for Country, and develops water education programs.  

Applications for the 2024 program have now closed and grants have been awarded to 14 community organisations and educational bodies. Thank you to everyone who applied and to those who were successful this year:

  • Clayton North Primary School – to develop an inter-generational garden, education program and greywater recycling system
  • Span Community House, Darebin – to upgrade its community garden’s irrigation system enhancing water efficiency and accessibility.
  • Friends of Merri Creek, Merribek - has secured funding to restore habitats along the Merlynston and Merri Creeks.
  • Monbulk Primary School, Monbulk – for a Sensory Garden featuring indigenous plants, enhancing the school’s ongoing commitment to caring for Country. 
  • Yarra Hills College, Yarra Ranges - for a new water pump, water tank and essential underground piping
  • Mitcham Community House, Whitehorse - for a bird feeder, possum box, butterfly feeder and landscaping for habitat restoration
  • Eastwood Primary School & Deaf Facility, Ringwood – for a new watering system for its edible Kitchen Garden Program
  • Friends of the Platypus, Nillumbik – towards education resources and safety equipment for habitat restoration 
  • Mont Albert Village, Whitehorse - for a portable water tank for re-planting native vegetation along the rail corridor
  • Lalor North Primary School, Lalor - to install a water fountain, water tank and new irrigation system 
  • Lighthouse Foundation, Maroondah - for a water tank and garden beds
  • Mernda Community Garden at Carome Smart, Whittlesea - for a new irrigation system 
  • Edible Warburton Community, Yarra Ranges - to purchase new rainwater tanks
  • Newlands Primary School, Darebin - towards composting systems and garden supplies.

Our Community Grants Program is one of the ways we deliver on our Purpose: to support the health and wellbeing of our customers and create a brighter future for communities and the natural environment.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a community grant if you are: 

  • a not-for-profit community organisation 
  • an educational organisation 
  • charity organisation 
  • an incorporated association
  • local community group


     
Grant categories

Some examples of activities and items that we will fund include:   

 

water protection logoWater efficiency – projects that can help communities access water-saving appliances, taps and fixtures, water audits and retrofits, install smart irrigation systems, rainwater tanks, etc. 

 

 

water availability and conservation logoWater conservation – projects that aim to enhance water conservation education and awareness at schools, community centres, or other public spaces. E.g. educational programs, water wise landscaping, programs that promote efficient use of water and keep bills lower, etc.  

 

 

healthy eco system logoCommunity connection and resilience –  projects that support people to connect within the community through community gardens, drought-tolerant landscapes, sporting facilities and community hubs, etc. 

 

 

sustainability logoSustainable water use and habitat restoration –  projects that focus on sustainable water use and caring for Country such as increasing tree canopy, drought tolerant revegetation and habitat restoration, etc.
