Digital metering

We’re upgrading to digital water meters, making it easier for you to manage your water use. Digital meters send regular updates to our secure data centre, so you can access more detailed and timely information about your water use and bills online.

We’ll be replacing your existing mechanical meter with a digital one at no cost to you and we’ll take care of the installation.

We’re upgrading meters in Box Hill North, Glen Waverley, Reservoir and Vermont South between November 2024 and April 2025.

This upgrade is part of our commitment to providing you with the best service possible. With better data, we can manage water resources more effectively, which means smarter water management and cost savings for you.

Discover the benefits of digital meters

Smart and convenient.
You’ll get daily water use data, so you can make informed decisions to help you save water and money.

Simple and secure.
Your digital meter sends regular reads to our secure systems. No customer data is stored in the meter and water use data is protected.

What you need to know

How do digital meters work?

Digital meters measure water volume and automatically send regular water readings to our secure data centre by using existing telecommunication infrastructure.

No personal information is stored in the meter and all data is encrypted.

Before we install your digital meter

To ensure we can install your digital water meter quickly and easily, check that:

  • your existing meter is not behind a locked gate
  • your existing meter is not buried
  • access to your property isn’t blocked
  • shrubs or plants aren’t covering your existing meter
  • there is more than 25mm concrete clearance around your existing meter.
The day we install your new digital meter
  • You don't need to be at home if we can access your water meter.
  • Make sure any pets or outdoor animals are secured.
  • Make sure water is not in use. Your water supply will be interrupted for 10 – 15 minutes while we install your digital meter.
  • If we can’t access your meter, our technician will leave information on what you need to do.
How do I see my water usage data?

To see your water usage data, log in or sign up for MyAccount, our online service portal.

In MyAccount simply click on Usage to view your daily, weekly or quarterly water usage data.

Will my billing cycle change?

No. You will still receive a quarterly bill.

Will digital meters impact my health?

No. Digital meters are entirely safe.

They emit low level radiofrequency (RF) waves, a form of electromagnetic energy present all around us from natural and man-made sources and comply with Australian regulatory standards for smart meters and health.
