Kids set to have a splashing good time at Melbourne Museum these school holidays

Parents will be able to teach their kids about the importance of saving water when they visit the ‘Shower Superstars’ activity hub at Melbourne Museum these school holidays.

Yarra Valley Water, South East Water and City West Water are jointly running the activity hub from April 6 to 21.

Primary school and kindergarten children will take part in fun activities that start the conversation early about water’s important role in our society and why everyone, including kids, needs to save water.

Yarra Valley Water Managing Director, Pat McCafferty said that ‘Shower Superstars’ would be a fun activity that would also teach kids about the importance of conserving water, especially in the shower which accounts for 32 per cent of household water-use.

“Saving water will continue to be an important lesson for the next generation especially as climate change impacts water availability and our need for water increases as our population grows.

“This can be a challenging concept for parents to teach kids. We hope that this activity hub will help to educate children in a fun and interactive way about why we all need to save water,” Mr McCafferty said.

Kids and parents who visit the ‘Shower Superstars’ activity hub will be able to take part in the following activities:

  • A mock shower where children can sing karaoke to a four-minute song to encourage them to have shorter showers. The shower will be set up like a photo booth with oversized props (shower cap, rubber duck etc) which will make for some fun and colourful photos.
  • A craft activity where the children can make a shower tile to add to the shower at the museum.
  • Staff will be there to assist in all activities and to help answer any water-saving questions children or their parents have.
