Epping Main Sewer Project
For the Epping Main Sewer project, we constructed new sewerage infrastructure in Lalor, Campbellfield and Epping to reduce the likelihood of sewage spills occurring during storm events, and to cater for growth in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Project details
The project involved our contractor, John Holland, building a 2.3 kilometre-long large-diameter sewer pipe at depths of up to 35 metres. The pipe was constructed by tunnelling it underground by using large Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), including under the Merri Creek and Hume Freeway. John Holland built five construction shafts to enable the underground tunnelling to occur, which have now become permanent maintenance structures.

Construction details
Construction of the Epping Main Sewer began in late December 2017, and was completed in March 2020.
