Surrey Hills Water Pressure Project

Yarra Valley Water has completed works at several locations in Surrey Hills to improve water pressure to customers in the area.

Project details

As some of our customers in the Surrey Hills area had been experiencing issues with low water pressure, we undertook a series of investigations across our network and constructed a temporary pumping station at the Melbourne Water reservoir site on Elgar Road.

This temporary pumping station, completed in December 2016, enabled us to maintain a higher water pressure level in sections of our pipes, particularly those located around the top of hills.

In addition, we inspected the water mains in Pembroke and Newton Streets to better understand their condition. In September 2017, we completed work to improve these pipes.

Throughout the 2017 - 18 summer months, we monitored the water pressure levels to better understand whether the water pumping station had improved our service - or if further upgrades were required.

In July 2019 we began work to construct a new permanent pumping station at the Melbourne Water reservoir site. This pumping station was completed and commissioned August 2020.

In November 2020, we began work to decommission the temporary pumping station.

All work was completed in December 2020.

Take a look at images of the pump station below.
